NYMS scheduled walk Van Cortlandt Park West, Bronx Saturday, July 9

Stemonitopsis typhina var. similis, Tom Bigelow, Van Cortlandt Park, 7/14/19

Please join us for a walk this Saturday at our Van Cortlandt Park West location.

The city has had very little rain in the last few weeks, so we’re likely to see only a very modest amount of fungi, such as ascomycetes (aka ‘dots on sticks’), crusts and polypores.

If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here’s what to expect.

It will be hot, so bring plenty of water as well as lunch. Mosquitoes and ticks are out, so make sure to protect yourself. Long pants and firm footwear are recommended. A walking stick can be handy for poking around the leaf litter. No baskets, please.

Many members document their finds using the iNaturalist app – we highly recommend doing so.

There will be restrooms at the beginning and end of the walk.
