NYMS scheduled walk Wolfe’s Pond Park, Staten Island Sunday, July 31

Camarops petersii, Tom Bigelow, Wolfe’s Pond Park, July 11, 2021

Please join us for a walk this Sunday at Wolfe’s Pond Park in Staten Island.

Despite some recent rains, there have been very few fungi in the city so far this summer. We’re more likely to find ascomycetes, crusts and polypores on sticks and logs than the usual summer mycorrhizals.

The walk ends in an area by a beach with picnic benches and restrooms. Bring a towel and a bathing suit if you’re interested in taking a dip. The water temperature is 77 degrees.

Bring lots of water and lunch. Mosquitoes and ticks are out – make sure to protect yourself.

If you’ve never been on a mushroom walk with us before, here’s what to expect. This walk is members-only.

Many members document their finds using the iNaturalist app – we highly recommend doing so.

We also recommend the free version of the AllTrails app to navigate trails and avoid getting lost. It’s available for iPhone and Android.
